About

Thistle Rose Gypsy was created in 2018 by Lisa Murray to create and sell boho/gypsy inspired fashions and accessories via the internet. It is kind of an extension of Thistle Rose Studio, which has been around since 2002.

Comfort clothing.
I am a seamstress.  I am not a tailor. I don't do alterations or custom orders. My style is simple and versatile. I like clothing that can go from comfortable cup-of-coffee on the couch to throw on a couple of accessories and you're ready to go out shopping or out with the girls. A sweet summer sundress becomes a winter jumper over a soft turtleneck and leggings. Layers and varied accessories turn a few key pieces into a varied wardrobe! And, it doesn't have to be outlandish or expensive.  And, buying from TRG supports the disabled! Read below.

I prefer simple, natural fabrics such as linen, cotton, and wool.  They're easy to care for, wear, and they just feel good.  They're also environmentally friendly and sustainable.  Each piece is unique and made as a work of art, no two will be alike.  I don’t mass produce.

Why Am I Doing This?
I've been sewing and designing clothing and costumes for over 40 years.  Some of my costuming venues have included the SCA, Renaissance fairs, cosplay, historical reenactments, children's Halloween and church costumes, as well as costumes for plays. While it hasn’t been my main job over the years, it’s something I’ve been able to do.

About 9 years ago I had to stop working due to disabilities (yes, I’m the disabled one). I tried for years to get disability to help with the high medical bills for all the specialists and hospitals I had to deal with, but the government decided I wasn’t disabled enough for their liking. I don’t like handouts anyway, nor do I like pity. I have a number of issues that keep me from working outside the home and generally with other people. But I had to do something to help support my family. I finally decided that this was something I could do, as I could still sew and knit, even with the osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis.

All clothing, accessories, and jewelry are made in the USA, right here in middle Tennessee, with all new materials.  They may not be perfect (I do shake sometimes, but I do my best) but they are made with every bit of care and attention I can give them.

So, that's my story. It is my hope to expand the business to a boutique in the near future, and to include phase two - a yarn shop as well.

Thanks for visiting!
